Asbestos Coordination in Wellington — One Contact, Complete Package
Asbestos is present in a large proportion of Wellington buildings constructed before 1990. Disturbing asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) without proper controls is illegal and dangerous. EMT Demolition provides a fully coordinated service so that asbestos is identified, safely removed, and disposed of before any demolition or strip-out work begins.
We work with a network of certified and licensed asbestos removal specialists for both Class A (friable) and Class B (non-friable) work. We manage the process from initial identification and testing through to removal, clearance, and disposal at licensed facilities — producing all required documentation for WorkSafe NZ notification and sign-off.
By combining asbestos coordination with our demolition and strip-out services, we eliminate the need for you to manage multiple contractors. You get a single point of contact, a single price, and a seamless project from start to finish.
All our work complies with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 and WorkSafe NZ guidelines. We carry full public liability insurance and every project is planned with worker and public safety as the absolute priority.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my building contain asbestos?
Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) were commonly used in NZ buildings constructed before 1990. If your building was built or renovated before 1990, it likely contains some form of ACM. We recommend a survey before any demolition or strip-out work begins.
What's the difference between Class A and Class B asbestos removal?
Class B covers non-friable (bonded) asbestos such as fibro-cement sheets. Class A covers friable (loose) asbestos such as insulation and spray coatings. Class A removal requires a licensed specialist and strict containment procedures. We coordinate both types.
Do you handle the asbestos removal yourselves?
We work with certified, licensed asbestos removal specialists. Our role is to coordinate the process end-to-end — from identification and testing, through to removal, disposal, and clearance certificates — so you only deal with one company.
What documentation is required by WorkSafe?
WorkSafe NZ requires an asbestos management plan or asbestos removal control plan, SSSPs, notification to WorkSafe for Class A work, and a clearance certificate from an independent assessor after removal.
